Landscapers covering Durham and County Durham
Global Outdoor Design builds driveways, patios, fencing and gardens for homeowners in Durham City, Chester-le-Street, Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor, Consett and across County Durham.
We start with a free visit to see the space, check levels, drainage and access, and show you materials. You get a clear written quote before any work is booked. On site, we dig out properly, build a compacted base and set solid edging, so your new driveway or patio stays level and looks good for years.

Patios and gardens to suit older homes
From stone cottages and terraces in the former pit villages to newer estates around Durham City, every home needs something a little different. Natural sandstone often suits older stone properties, while porcelain gives a crisp, modern finish that is very easy to keep clean.
If you live in a conservation area, such as parts of Durham City, some changes to front gardens and boundaries can need extra permission. We’ll flag anything that applies when we visit.

Durham questions
Quick answers to the questions we get asked most.
Can’t see your question? Get in touch or call 0191 245 5045.
Do you cover my part of County Durham?
We work across County Durham, including Durham City, Chester-le-Street, Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor, Newton Aycliffe, Crook, Consett, Stanley, Peterlee and Seaham. If you’re nearby but not listed, just ask.
Do I need planning permission for a driveway in Durham?
Usually not if the surface is permeable, like resin-bound or permeable block paving, or if water drains onto a lawn or border. A non-permeable surface over 5 square metres in a front garden normally needs permission, and conservation areas can have extra rules. We’ll check what applies to your home.
Can you arrange a dropped kerb?
Dropped kerbs are approved by Durham County Council, and the pavement work is done by an approved contractor. We’ll explain the process and build your new driveway to suit.
Is resin or block paving better for a Durham home?
Both work well. Resin gives a smooth, permeable finish that needs very little upkeep, while block paving is hard-wearing and easy to repair. We’ll show you samples of both on your free visit.
How soon can you visit?
We usually arrange a visit within a few days of your enquiry. Call 0191 245 5045 or send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch.
