Indian sandstone & porcelain patios

We lay Indian sandstone and porcelain patios, paths and steps for homes in Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland, Morpeth and across the North East.

We start by looking at how you want to use the garden, where the sun falls and how the patio meets the house, lawn and borders. Then we help you choose the stone, plan the layout and build it on a full mortar bed over a compacted base, with drainage, steps and edging worked in from the start.

Sandstone or porcelain?

Both last for years on a proper base. It mostly comes down to the look you want.

Level where it matters, sloped where it counts

A patio should look level but always shed water away from the house. We set the falls from the start, add linear drains beside doorways and keep damp-proof courses clear, so the patio stays dry, safe and free from standing water.

  • Falls set away from the property
  • Linear drains at thresholds
  • Compacted sub-base and full mortar bed
  • Pointing for a clean, weather-tight finish

Patio questions

Quick answers to the questions we get asked most.

Can’t see your question? Get in touch or call 0191 245 5045.

Should I choose sandstone or porcelain?

Sandstone is a natural stone with warm colours and a traditional feel. Porcelain has a clean, modern finish, resists stains and is very easy to keep clean. Both last well on a proper base, so it mostly comes down to style and budget. We can bring samples on your visit.

How much does a new patio cost?

It depends on the size, the stone you choose, the levels and any extras such as steps, walls or drainage. We’ll visit, measure up and give you a clear written quote with no obligation.

How long does it take to lay a patio?

An average patio takes a few days to a week. Larger or tiered patios with steps and walls take longer. We’ll give you a timescale with your quote and keep you updated as we go.

Do you lay slabs on a full mortar bed?

Yes. Every slab is laid on a full bed over a compacted sub-base. It’s the difference between a patio that stays solid and one that rocks and cracks after a winter.

Can you build steps, walls and raised beds too?

Yes. Many of our patios include steps, retaining walls, raised planters and edging, and we can combine them with a new lawn, paths or fencing as part of a full garden makeover.

How do I clean a porcelain or sandstone patio?

Porcelain just needs a brush and a wash with warm soapy water or a gentle pressure wash. Sandstone benefits from an occasional clean and, if you like, a sealant to help keep its colour. We’ll give you simple aftercare advice.
